Description
Please bring water, and packed lunch. Walk begins and ends in Kington
A fine walk, with lovely views, historical interest and varies walking through field paths, and woodland. Taking in a short section of the Offa’s Dyke path and the Mortimer Trail. There are three steep ascents, the first guides us through farmland as we leave Kington, where we momentarily join the Mortimer Trail. This then brings us to our second ascent, giving fantastic views of Herefordshire and beyond. We then make a slow steady drop into the peaceful hamlet of Knill. We will have lunch by the church, which dates from the 12th century, but was heavily restored by the Victorians. Knill was one of just 53 villages in England and Wales where none of the men were killed in the First World War and so is known as a ‘thankful’ settlement. As we continue on our journey, we cross a few fields following a small brook, where we eventually join the Offa’s Dyke path for our final ascent via Herrock and Bradnor Hill following this back into Kington.
